7 Questions to Ask Before Choosing a Steel and Coal Supplier

A supplier is more than a price list. Delays or inconsistent quality can hold up an entire project. Before you commit, ask these seven questions.

1. Can you show test certificates?

A reliable supplier will readily share test reports for the batch you are buying. If they hesitate, treat it as a warning sign.

2. Do you keep stock of the sizes and grades I need?

Good availability means shorter waiting times, especially when you need material urgently or in large quantities.

3. How do you handle delivery and timing?

Ask about typical delivery times, how you will be updated on your order, and what happens if a delivery is late.

4. How is weight and quantity checked?

Look for suppliers who use calibrated weighbridges and give clear weighment slips, so you know you are getting what you paid for.

5. Is the pricing clear?

Ask for a written quotation that shows the rate, taxes, transport and any other charges, so there are no surprises on the final bill.

6. What are the payment terms?

Understand the payment schedule and any conditions for bulk or repeat orders before you agree.

7. Can I speak to existing customers?

A supplier with a good track record will not mind you asking for references. Their experience will tell you a lot about what to expect.
